A strange question coming from me. Really, I am afraid of heights and won’t take down escalators.
But it is a serious one. Or at least as serious as vacation activity decisions go. You could not pay me to zipline. You are flying over land at 40 miles an hour. Over trees. Rocks. Wild animals. For me? Not a chance.
But parasailing? I love parasailing. Much the same activity. You are harnessed and flying on a rope controlled by others. The first time I tried it, I almost chickened out. But a little six year old girl was in front of me and she was not scared at all. I simply wasn’t going to be outdone by a 6 year old, so up I went.
They strapped me in, showed me how to signal if I needed something, and up I went. I soon realized, with a death grip on the harness, that no one could actually hear me or even see if I signaled. After a few minutes of utter anxiety and almost ruining the ride, I started to breathe again. After all, there was nothing I could do but try to relax and enjoy the view. And what a site to see. Miles of clear blue water, sunny skies, and mountainsides. Heights might scare me, but water? Water delights me.
What scares you? What is it that could take the edge off?
