Some days lately it feels like I, maybe we, are just moving deck chairs on the Titanic. If all the terrible things we see portend the future – funding withheld, soldiers sent away from their families, not to defend the US, but to patrol Americans, and so on, then what’s the point?
But then I step back. The point is that the future is not foretold but depends on us. It depends on what we do. On how we lead. So let’s lead well.
Let’s stop doom scrolling and instead breathe and then,
Let’s find way we can act to change the future and protect our goals.
Let’s help our teams focus on their roles and the difference they make.
Let’s talk to our local and elected leaders.
Let’s share stories about what is working.
Let’s share stories of the impact of what isn’t.
Let’s create space for silly fun – water balloon fights, hosting ice cream socials and pie throwing contests, playing trivia games, dancing to old favorites, laughing at bad dad jokes, sitting quietly and reading.
Notice anything special about the last list? No screens. Probably should have started this list with limit screen time. When you watch the same story over and over, your brain thinks it happened over and over. So one and done.
What is working in your world? We are needed more than ever before.
Best to you and your team,
Julie
PS: This week I have been dancing it out to the Feel Good Summer playlist on Spotify and after slowly stretching out the binge watching, finishing binge watching The Residence on Netflix.
