LEAD BOLDLY: Why I have hope for 2026

by Julie Jakopic  - January 8, 2026

We are all of 8 days into the new year and in many ways, it is a continuation of the instability of 2025. So where do I come off being positive?

It is not that I think the policy or economic environment will stabilize. It’s that I trust that over the last five years of constant change, you, and I, and those with similar goals have gotten much better at managing ourselves and the chaos around us.

I am hopeful not because things will get easier but because I know we have already become stronger, more flexible, more used to “just in case” instead of “just in time.”

We have learned how to breathe, how to ask good questions, including for help, and we’ve learned how to bounce.

In some ways, we are tired but look at all we’ve already managed – covid changes, policy maker changes and policy changes, staff turnover, not to mention all things in daily life – new kids, new partners, new roles and losses of roles and parents and people and places we love.

And yet today, we woke up. Most likely, we woke up in a temperature controlled home, with food in the fridge, and people we love. That’s the start today. One day at time, together we move forward.

To a more joyful 2026.
