Busy is NOT a Competitive Sport
Â
It has become a bit cool to brag about how busy we are, how few hours we sleep, or how may emails we receive each day. We may be in the middle of the Olympics but busy is not a sport. No one wins the busy race. Check out this video for an effective idea for getting less busy.
Don’t Await It, Create It LIVE
Just a few weeks ago, 57 amazing leaders from came together for the first but soon to be annual Don’t Await It, Create It WOMEN event. These emerging leaders, current change makers, and glass-ceiling shatterers from private sector firms, non-profit agencies and public sector organizations brought expertise in education, economic development, IT, communication, transportation and more. Over the course of a weekend, they had the chance to dream big, define goals for the year and create a plan for getting there. Equally, importantly they had a chance to build relationships to help them achieve their goals to create movements, start new ventures, build healthier more balanced lives and so much more. Hear Julie’s interview about the conference with Debbie Mayerson of Financial2Go at http://financial2go.com/2014/02/16/julie-jakopic-does-it-again/
So what’s next?  We’ll have another Don’t Await It, Create It WOMEN here in the DC area next January 16-19. And we’re exploring other leadership events. Keep your eye here for news of the next event.
To support the leaders who attended Don’t Await It, Create It or wanted to, we are launching the Alchemy program. The Alchemy program Even if you weren’t able to join us at the conference, you may want to take advantage of one of the limited openings in the program. If you are looking to achieve your 2014 goals and thrive at work and in your personal life, let’s talk. Email me at Julie@iLeadStrategies.com

Beyond Survival to Thriving
Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to hear Arianna Huffington speak about Third Metric and her forthcoming book Thrive. Traditionally personal success has been measured in power and wealth. She believes that like a stool with two legs, those measures are not enough and that we need to grow attention to a third metric.  For Huffington, the third metric includes well-being, wisdom, wonder (the idea of amazement and curiosity) and generosity. I like those but have others that I’m curious about – joy, love, impact…I am curious how you might define success, send me a note and let me know. I’ll share the thoughts here next month. In the meantime, if you haven’t yet, check out the video above with a tip for creating more space in your life for your goals and dreams.
More Success Tips
I don’t know about you, but most leaders I know spend a ton of time in meetings. And in winter, with bad weather and short days many of them are virtual. Two great resources can help make them better and more effective. Watch this hilarious live re-enactment of a virtual meeting for ideas of what not to do and read this for ideas of what you can do to improve things. Want to reduce stress and have more energy for the process? Check this out.
