LEAD BOLDLY: Are you stuck in the goo?

by Julie Jakopic  - October 10, 2024

I don’t know about you but sometimes I get into these weird places where I know things are changing. I know I am not staying where I was, but I don’t know yet where I’m going or what it will be. I’ve been feeling this a lot lately.

Honestly, I hate this phase. Even when the likely outcomes are positive, the uncertainty Is nerve wracking. I just want to be where I am going, to get clear. To start. It’s like air travel – hurry up and wait. And wait. You get there when the pilot is ready.

I have often described this as a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. As you thought of that, I bet you pictured the caterpillar or the butterfly, but not the goo and gunk in the chrysalis in the in between. I forget that stage, too.

And then, I have to remember that I can’t make the clock turn faster. That I can stay miserable, or I can remember it will take however long it takes and, in the meantime, play in the in-between until I understand the next space.

What do you do in this space?

Have a great week.

Julie

What I’m learning this week: Like last week we are recovering from one hurricane and heading into a second. I know that World Central Kitchen will go where they are needed.

Where am I headed? Heading to Enrichment Services Programs to work with Head Start leaders.
