I don’t know about you but sometimes self-care seems to be what we do after we are exhausted. It’s a crazy week with lots of deadlines, intense meetings, unhappy people, no good options, and so on.
Then you stop and decide to do something for you. If you are being good, it’s not eating a pint of ice cream but a warm bath or a massage, make some art, do an extra workout or sleeping late.
When you are really fried though, that one act isn’t enough. It takes more to refuel. A few of those things. And ultimately you need to do that refueling – you can’t give to others if your cup is empty.
What if instead, you build in taking care of you? Make it part of your rituals and routines. It might make them seem less “special,” but if instead of emptying and re-filling the cup, you are able to keep it full.
