LEAD BOLDLY: No I am Not!

by Julie Jakopic  - September 5, 2024

Do you have that voice in your head that judges you. What my friend calls the itty bitty shitty committee? It says you are wrong, you aren’t enough, you are stupid, blah, blah, blah.

What do you do to deal with it? Push through and try to ignore it? Get sucked into a hole thinking it might be right? You can do those things but at best you succeed in pain and at worst get suck.

Here are a few ideas you might try instead:

Acknowledge the voice and thank it. “Thank you for your concern. I know I am where I am supposed to be, doing what is right for me.” Not sure that’s true? Read on.

Create a success or courage list of all the times you have succeed anyway. Been brave. Won an award. Avoided a disaster. And refer to this list often. It helps when that voice happens and even when that voice is quiet. It is a great reminder of who you are.

Do something small. Something you know you can do. An easy task. And then another. And another. And soon you have shown yourself and that voice the truth.

Blow it up. Instead, flip the script. What would happen if it’s true? Most of the time, in the present moment, absolutely nothing will happen. Good or Bad. If the worst case scenario is something you can do something about? Start dealing with it. If not, again, nothing changes. But there is something about standing in your power and looking that voice in the eye and saying “Yeah, so what!” that’s freeing.

Have some compassion. Those voices come from past scripts and experiences. Forgive yourself and it. And then get moving anyway.

Have a great week!

What I’m learning this week: I have couple of speaking opportunities coming up. Since the pandemic my wardrobe is different and expectations are too. How to dress like a credible adult in 2024 and do it traveling and in comfort? I’ve been learning how from my friend Catherine Cassidy of Boutique Box starting with shopping my closet.

Where am I headed? Next week I’ll be at the National Community Action Partnership Conference and Sept 24-25, I’ll be with Professional Women in Advocacy. Come join me at either!

P.S. Have feedback on anything in this newsletter? I take compliments and complaints! You can reply or DM me on Facebook or LinkedIn! What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Let me hear them!
