LEAD BOLDLY: For You, Not To You

by Chandress  - May 7, 2025

Ok, this one is a little weird so bear with me.

The gutting of the programs most of us have spent our careers working in or near, is despicable. The random firing of committed team members is inhumane.

But, this week I have talked to three people who have lost their jobs in the last 100 days and landed on their feet in new roles. One is early in her career, one in the middle, and one a senior executive. Yes, they were angry. Yes, they are smart. Yes, they are competent. But so are most of the others in this situation that we know. What they had in common was their approach.

Look, I know these three defied the math of more job losses than jobs to be had, in a time of great uncertainty. But that’s what you are reading for, right? To find ways to succeed anyway.

Here are the three things these people had in common.

  1. They trusted they could land on their feet. That they would choose to find a way to see this as something that was done for them, not just to them.
  2. They treated landing on their feet like a job. They didn’t curl up under the bed. Instead, they got up every day and spent the day talking to people, networking, researching; whatever they could do to stay in action.
  3. They stayed away from those who doubted they could do it. Sure, empathy was  good but then it was time to support forward motion.

Where can you use these ideas?

Best,

Julie
