I know you’re always taking care of someone. Many someones.
Your team, your family, your community. You show up. You rally. You fix. You lead. You keep it all going—even when it feels like the wheels might fall off.
But when was the last time someone looked at you and said, “How are you really doing?”
That’s me today. Because if you don’t take care of you, you don’t get to help others.
I had a mini wake-up call. Two weeks ago I realized I was really fried and took the weekend off. Really off. Drank tea and read in bed past noon on Saturday. Had dinner with a friend on Sunday. Did no work.
But alas, it was too little too late. A few days later, I got a painful rash and was diagnosed with shingles. I am nearly well but it was no fun. Both my doc and the pharmacist said they have seen an unusual number of cases in usually pretty healthy people over the last few weeks.
It’s been a wild ride, and take it from me, you need to be on your list first. Take some time to breathe, to create, to laugh, to ground.
And, two more things.
- If it’s been suggested that you get vaccinated for shingles – do it. This stuff is painful
- I have a couple of spots remaining for Women Who Lead next weekend, consider if you should take one of them. Curious but not sure? Just reply to this email
Wishing you all good things,
Julie
