I have this wonderful, soft, ancient denim shirt. It is my fav shirt to wear when I am hanging out at home. When I run down to the front desk or to the pool.
I “borrowed” it from a man I went on to spend 20 years married to and divorced nearly another 20 years ago. Yes. It’s 40 years old. I just couldn’t part with it.
It’s been a mess for a while. The collar doesn’t quite get clean. There is a hole in one of the elbows. I am wearing it now for what I suspect is the last time. Another washing will shred it. Time to let it go.
It’s a good reminder about all the things and ideas we hold on to. The things we believed when we were kids that we still think. I still can’t draw and thought I was bad at art and now am a juried artist. I was good at math and thought I couldn’t write, but here we are. What else did I tell myself that wasn’t true?
What are you holding on to?
Julie
Something I want to share: Last year, I was privileged to have Eva Medilek join me at the Women Who Lead event, and again to provide training in our community. I value her work and believe it was made for this moment. I wanted to share it.
A time in this world where differing perspectives and voices are being silenced. A time where programs and initiatives that are designed to create space for all voices are being removed. Eva has created The Inclusive Community Blueprint.
It’s a course for leaders, educators, coaches, and anyone ready to communicate more effectively, lead more inclusively, and create spaces of trust, safety, and belonging.
She’s offering the full course, normally $497—for just $197 through Juneteenth with code JUNETEENTH2025.
If you care about equal opportunities, inclusion, and connection, but aren’t always sure how to lead those conversations or show up powerfully, this is the support you’ve been waiting for. Please check out this course grounded in empathy, awareness, and brave communication. To learn more, click Here -> Tell Me More:
